  Rain on the Runner’s Mark

Sacré Bleu! Bill Cheatum has the results in for “DuPont Forest - Guion Farm Area”*.

Webmaster's Note:  * French, literally “Of Bridge Furnace - Waiter! To close the Area”.

  Lake Crawford for All Seasons

Dan Davis eaten by an enraged bear! Results posted by his thoughtful next-of-kin.

  Hail to the Chief

Or hailed on the Chief, in this case. That would be Sandy Kohn's meet last Saturday at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve. But neither hail nor woods nor dark of misplaced controls shall stay the orienteer from the swift completion of his appointed rounds. (Hmm... then why all the DNFs?) You had better read the Results for yourself.

  Foggy Mountain O-down

Ian Prince delivers a misty Morrow Mountain meet. One problem — no one was there to give instruction to the beginners. (We can't let that happen, boys and girls, or they won't come a second time.) Results are in!

  Kings Military

One of our largest crowds ever at Kings Mountain National Military Park, helmed by stalwart Walter Siegenthaler. Find out what Dan Davis is reported to have done. (Gasp!) Is it true? Get the details at Results, to the left.

  Happy New Year!

Old acquaintances were soon remembered at Latta Plantation on January 5th. Meet director Jeanie Martz was “shocked—shocked!” to witness the arrival of long-absent orienteer Blair Peery and main squeeze Arlene at the meet. For the full report, click Results at left.

  Chillin’ at Piedmont

David Alexander comes through with another meet featuring Josef “Tricky” Trzicky©-designed courses. The cold doesn’t keep away an enthusiastic crowd. See Results at left.

  Terrific Turnout at McDowell

A great showing amid beautiful weather... that’s what orienteering is all about! Read all about it in in Bill Ketring’s meet report. Click Results at left.

Webmaster’s Note:  The White Course results were posted incorrectly by some webmaster or other. They have been fixed and re-posted. Sorry for the delay.

  JROTC Champs at Camp York

Thanksgiving tom-foolery delayed the reporting, but the results could not be denied. (Can you blame the guy? He faced over 200 Jay-rot-seas at one event. Yikes!) See David Alexander’s trenchant summation as soon as possible.

  Webmaster Returns from Bali

Thanks to Richard Ilson for minding the website while I was out globe-trotting. Arlene and I visited exotic Hindu temples (see right) among other delights.

Webmaster’s note:  Richard is a terse fellow, isn’t he? Not a wasted word in his announcements here on the home page. Well, we’ll have no more of that! It’s back to the usual bombast, starting immediately.

  Results

Results are posted for Crowder's Mountain.

  Results

Results are posted for Reedy Creek and Badin Lake.

  Canoe-O

The results have arrived with a muddy splash!

  Schedule Changes

A couple of the meets have changed dates to accommodate the schedules of some groups outside of the COK. Please check the updated Schedule for the new dates and locations.

We’ve known about the change for a while, but have only now been able to update our site. See Technical Note (below) for details.

  Technical Note

Our hosting company has had some growing pains over the years, been bought out, changed names, etc. Each time they do something, we end up with website problems. Lately it has gotten to be too much of a hassle, and our intrepid Webmaster...

Webmaster's Note:  Hey! That's me!

...has wrested control from those villains...

Webmaster's Note:  In a daring gun battle which will be detailed in my up-coming screenplay, "Blairy Potter and the Webserver of Fire".

...and switched to GoDaddy as our new hosting company. What you are looking at now is hosted on GoDaddy’s servers, and I expect much more consistent service from them.

Pardon us if there are any glitches in the initial period as we test everything at our new home. Please report any problems to the Webmaster, or any officer of the club.

  COK Needs Your Help

Your local orienteering club is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that relies solely on the participation and enthusiasm of its members. It takes a considerable amount of effort to organize meets and operate courses given the tremendous increase in participants.  Although it may look like things run pretty smoothly, the truth is that having one person manage a meet by themselves is getting too daunting. WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE.

What can you do?
First, you don’t have to commit a lot of time and effort by yourself. For instance, you could set up a course and not manage a meet or someone else could set up courses for you and you could administer the meet. Responsibilities and load can be shared.  Any amount of assistance at meets is welcome and we can arrange meet management tasks to fit your schedule and abilities.

Second, to keep electronic punch capabilities we need more people to manage the computer at meets. It’s not a difficult task to learn and as mentioned, we can accommodate your needs with the club’s.

Please consider volunteering!  Your contributions will make a tremendous impact and will ensure the fun of orienteering remains a viable part of the greater Charlotte region’s outdoor activities.  Volunteering is also a great scout community service project.

Fill Out Meet Forms in Advance

There’s always a minor hassle getting registered at the start of a meet. Everyone is crowding around the little table filling out forms at once, and there’s a fair amount of delay before the you get to hit the woods and the fun begins. Well, let’s see if we can help.

Here’s our Meet Registration form you can click on and print right off the website*. Print as many copies as you need! It has the waiver for you or an adult guardian to sign, and all the information on pricing so you can have your money worked out. Bring the completed registration form (and the cash-ola, of course) to the meet with you.

Application for Membership

Paying your club dues and registering for a meet are really unrelated, so we’ve made two forms instead of the older combined form. To join the COK (or simply to renew), you may either mail in your check plus form or bring them to a meet.

Here is our Membership Application form*. Like the meet registration form above, it requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print. See below.

*Adobe’s free Acrobat Reader is required. It can be downloaded here if it’s not already on your computer.

  Meet Director's Reporting Document

There is a standard form for Meet Directors’ use when emailing results to the COK website. Using it will speed up the process, i.e., less translation and retyping will be involved. Take a look at this page which outlines the simple process. It’s easy. Meet Directors, vow to be fast this season! I’ll do the same.
