  Basic Rules

COK meets are held on Saturday, unless marked otherwise on the meet schedule further down this page, even if it's raining.

10:00 AM
(based on instructor availability)

Basic Instruction begins for all who are interested. This is very informal; if you don't see a teaching group in progress, ask at the registration table.
10:00 AM Start times become available. Go to the registration table and request one.
Noon No more start times. You cannot begin later than this time.
3:00 PM All courses are closed.

 Important!

1. When you’re done with a course, no matter whether you finished all the controls or not, you are REQUIRED to check in with the meet director at the registration desk. See box below.

2. There is a 3-hour Time Limit to all courses. At that point you must check in whether you're finished or not.

3. All courses close at 3:00 PM. EVERYONE must check in at registration BY 3:00 PM, finished or not!!

It does not matter if you completed your course or not — anyone who does not check in will be Presumed Lost. A search party will be organized. If you really are lost, then help is on the way.

(But... if they find out you went home to watch “The Mentalist” without checking in, boy will they be pissed.)

Meet Fees

 Map Fee

General Public:
     ..... $8 per map
Special groups (Scouts, ROTC):
     ..... $6 per map
COK members:
     ..... $5 per map

Note that this fee is for each map, not each person. Several people may elect to go together using only one map.

 Compass rental

Compasses are available to rent for $1. You will be asked to leave your driver's license or your car keys as collateral.

 Finger stick rental

Electronic finger sticks are also available to rent for $2, for use with electronic punch courses. Collateral is required, as these puppies are expensive to replace.

COK Membership

Support orienteering in the greater Charlotte area by joining the COK. As a member, you help us map new park lands, you are eligible for the cheaper member map fees above and...

TC   ...and on your deathbed, you will receive
Total Conciousness®. So ya got dat going for ya.

You can join at any meet, or by mailing in a Meet Registration Form. There's a link to one on the home page of this site, under the heading “Fill Out Meet Forms in Advance”. Do it today!

  Meet Schedule

Volunteers help out the Meet Director, maybe by getting people registered or writing down start times. No expert orienteering skills are required, but many times an extra pair of hands are greatly appreciated. If you've enjoyed a few meets, maybe now's the season for you to give some back — pick a date, contact the Meet Director, and volunteer! Hey! ...you'll be righteous the rest of the year.

Check with the Backwoods Orienteering Klub (BOK) to see about other meets in North Carolina, especially in the Raleigh area.

When you see YES! in the Results column (below), then the meet results have been posted. Click on the YES! to jump to that meet’s report.
