  Uwharries Mountain Festival

This was the 4th annual Uwharries Mountain Festival.  Each year the turnout gets a little better.  The weatherman didn’t help out too much this year though, as they were predicting an all-day rain.  As it turned out, there were just a few sprinkles mid-morning and then the sun came out and the day was really good.  The turnout for the meet was good as well, with about 100 participants. 

The woods at Badin are full of interesting features like complex gullies and big rock fields.  Josef reported he has finished mapping a large section of woods continuing south towards the Camp Arrowhead campground.  If we get the updated map in time, I will schedule a regular meet there for sometime later this winter or early spring.  We should have plenty of room to set long courses and no one will have to ride a shuttle bus. 

I would like to thank Pam Smith for helping with registration and time keeping and Walter Siegenthaler for picking up controls.  We need more volunteers to help out at the upcoming meets.  Hope to see you all at Kings Mountain.
