  That *&#@%$!! Hill

Morrow Mountain State Park| 21-Feb-2009 | Ian Prince, meet director.

Just over 100 orienteers came out for the annual pilgrimage to the Uwharries – a good turnout for one of our more remote meets.  It was cold and clear but slowly warmed up as we approached the noon hour.  No White course at Morrow Mountain; just not enough loop trails to work with.  So instead of White our entry level course was a Yellow, whose added distance and times were well received.

The Red course turned out to be a very popular figure “8”.  A competitive front half of the field made it interesting as everyone debated whether to go over or around that *&#@%$!!  hill.  We also had a great turnout of Adventure Racers honing their navigation skills.  If we could only Adventure Race on orienteering maps!

Control pick up was much smoother than last year as I get smarter in my course design and with support from Troop 18, Alex and Charlie.  Thanks for a great day in the woods.
