DuPont Forest| 19-Apr-2008 | Bill Cheatum, meet director.
Braving the rain and cold winds, competitors endured and dominated challenging courses on difficult terrain. The wealth of detail on Josef’s Dupont Forest map made for a pleasant evening designing appropriately difficult courses. Perhaps they were too difficult; I prefer to think that the driving rains and wind over the Mark kept everyone from their fastest pace. Certainly the high minutes-per-kilometer on all courses showed some common resistance to high-speed traverse.
Big thanks to Pam Alexander and Melanie Stowell for handling the registration and instruction while I toyed with a results program that combined both E-punch and punch cards. A nicer day would have made this experiment more fun. Melanie put out the water stops, ran a Green course AND picked up controls. She’s not one to stand around. More thanks to Jim Murray, David Alexander, David Aaronson, and Melanie Stowell, the control picker uppers. With their help, I didn’t have to run the Mark any more that day.
