  JROTC Champs at Camp York

At the Lake York Group Camp, fall was in the air and the leaves were bright yellow and orange.  It was a beautiful time of year to be in the woods and early morning you could hear the sound of people running through the freshly fallen leaves.  It was the annual JROTC Blueridge Championship meet with 221 competitors, from 17 schools.  By 9:00 am, the JROTC were already on the courses.  The local turnout was more modest with 35 competitors and teams.  You would think the woods would be crowded but Lake York is a large area well suited for an event of this size.  I did notice, however, as I was picking up controls that the entry and exit pathways to control points were pretty well beaten down. 

Thanks to Dennis Polack and the other JROTC instructors and volunteers, the Championship was a big success.  It was great to see so many young people outside, enjoying orienteering during such a beautiful time of the year.  Check out the non-JROTC results listed below.
