  Morrow Mountain

Morrow Mtn State Park | 14-Apr-2007 | Ian Prince, meet director.

Another great day of orienteering in the oldest mountain range in North America.  The terrain of Morrow Mountain State Park allows for lots of elevation change and lots of good practice in contouring avoiding that change.  The running is harder because of all the downed trees, but the beautiful environment makes up for the bruised shins.

My thanks go out to Josef who set great Trzicky courses.  A bigger park allows for longer routes and those that went out on the White and Orange courses had to step it up a little bit.  I had anticipated a higher attendance than the 100 orienteers that showed up, but attribute the lower numbers to Spring Break.  I moved the start/finish area away from the registration shelter to give everyone more room, which turned out to be unnecessary and even confused a few of the regulars (who should look at the map closer).

Josef stayed and missed some of the hockey game to help pick up controls and Andy from Jacksonville hung out to go run and grab some controls.  Many thanks.  The only other thing I would change is instructing my Starter/Finisher to include the seconds when recording times for the Red course runners.  They all worked too hard to have a 3-way tie for 2nd place.  Many apologies to David, Lina and Brian.
