Saturday the 18th

On a really nice Fall day COK had a great turnout for a local meet in DuPont Forest. Many people drove up from Charlotte as well as from the Greenville/Spartanburg area. There were several participants from the Asheville area as well, most notable among those being Bill Cheatum and his family. Bill deserves much credit for establishing the sport of orienteering in the South. He plans to map some additional areas around Asheville. We look forward to his involvement in orienteering in this area.

Sunday the 19th

The Bike-O on Sunday was a success with triple the number of participants of the last bike-O at this location. Many club members participated as well as many elite adventure racers from the surrounding area.

The Bike-O event was a Score-O. Participants were to achieve as many points as possible in 90 minutes. Controls were assigned point values of 10-7-3 depending upon distance and/or climb from the start point. There were 31 possible controls for a total of 192 points. There were time penalties applied for being overtime:  2 points for each of the first five minutes overtime, and 5 points for every minute thereafter.
