The morning started out cold but the sky was blue and the sun bright.  As the day warmed the orienteerers began to arrive. By 10:00 am the tables were crowded with people copying courses on their maps.  We had White through Red courses available to test all levels of capability.  The leaves on the trees were in full color and some had trouble picking out the orange and white control flags amongst the brilliant yellow, red and orange foliage.  But this was perfect orienteering weather and a day in the woods this time of year is something to remember. 

Also sharing the courses Saturday was the 11th annual Blue Ridge JROTC Orienteering Championships.  This event brings in hundreds of JROTC kids from across the region. The JROTC had their own start and finish but utilized the same courses as the COK meet. That meant the control points were busier than the results may indicate.

Thanks to the volunteers who made the meet such a success:  Pam Smith, registration; Michelle Smith, time keeping; James Sisk and Walter Siegenthaler, control pick up.  Remember, without the help of volunteers, we could not hold these events.
