First Meet Ever at Fisher Farm Park

Fisher Farm Park | 20-May-2006 | David Alexander, meet director.

(Course setter:  Josef Trzicky)

Fisher Farm is a relatively small park, at a little over 200 acres, but the terrain and varied vegetation make it a prefect location for beginner and intermediate level orienteering. As an old farm, it is about 50% open fields and 50% mature hardwood forest. The open fields gently undulate and slope down to a major creek. The wooded areas contain big reentrants and complicated gully systems.

The meet at Fisher Farm was a “spur of the moment” proposition. Josef Trzicky had just finished mapping the park for the Town of Davidson, and suggested we have a meet there before the season ended. We agreed and Josef set the courses:  White, Yellow, Orange and Sprint. The turnout was moderate due to the short notice, but we had a good group including JROTC, Boy Scouts and some regular Klubb members. Everyone enjoyed the courses and found them challenging. I am looking forward to next fall when we hope to have another meet there.
