Control 6 on Orange was Missing, I tell you!
Crowders Mountain State Park | 01-Oct-2005 | Walter Siegenthaler, meet director.
We had great weather for our first regular meet of this season, still a little bit on the warm side with plenty of sunshine. We offered our regular set of courses (White, Yellow, Orange, Green and Red), with electronic punching on Orange, Green and Red. The turn out was great, mainly thanks to 6 JROTC units who came out to hone their skills. There is a bit of a problem to identify some of the groups since they only gave a team and number to the starter, so we ended up with more than one group with the same name. I tried to sort them out as best as I could but still ended up with 2 groups called “Team 2” on Orange. There are also some repeats between White and Yellow, but most of them are groups which did the White course first and then went out again on Yellow. Next time make sure to give the starter the team number as well as the school name.
We had a very close race on the Red course with David Alexander beating Joseph Trzicky by only 3 seconds. This is an extremely small margin after a 6 K course through some rough terrain.
A big thank you to the following club members who helped to handle the 195 participants, I sure could not have done it all myself: Leslie Carlson, registration and control pick-up; Ken Carlson, start/finish and control pick-up; Bill Ketring, E-punching and control pick-up; James Sisk, E-punching; Dan Davis, instructions; David Alexander, instructions and control pick-up; John Fairley, control pick-up.

Amazing Blair Peery
Webmaster’s Note: Now look, I don't know what everybody else on Orange found, but that blasted #6 control simply wasn’t there! DNF indeed. C’mon Jim, back me up here!

Let me tell you, Blair, the guy who picked up the controls did find #6. Maybe it disappeared and re-appeared... who knows, controls sometimes do strange things.
