Latta Plantation Nature Preserve | 24-Sept-2005 | Charlie Martz, meet director.
We had quite a busy day on the lake with a club record 20 boats making the trip. The lake was a bit on the low side which meant a lot of mud if you stepped in the wrong place as some people found out the hard way. The weather was hot too but the water was warm enough to invite a swim from a few of the groups; some on purpose, some by accident. (But don’t ask Chapman #1, I don’t think they want to talk about it anymore…) We had so many people show up that we ran out of boats for a while and had to wait for groups to return so more could go out. We’ll be sure to get hold of a lot more boats next year.
We owe a huge thanks to Woody Woodward of the Mecklenburg County Parks and Rec for providing the boats, paddles and PFD’s. Without his help we never would have had so many people turn up. He’s ready to supply us more for next year so there will be no waiting. Just hop in and go!
Also a big thanks to my mom, Jeanie Martz for helping with the money/paperwork side of things which will also confound me, and Walter for helping to pick up the controls even though he spanked everyone else on the course by paddling alone in his kayak. Does the man ever get tired?? I’m tying an anchor to his boat next year!
