Another beautiful day for Orienteering, temps in the low sixties, a bit of an overcast, and a light breeze. And boy did you all take advantage of the day. We had 175 people out on the courses. That is in addition to the 361 JROTC on the courses having their annual Blue Ridge Championship. We could have charged more and called it an “A-Meet”. The courses were all leaning towards the long side; ask anyone who ran the Red course. Josef still turned in a blistering time of 1:26:40 for 7.85k. That works out to be 11 minutes and a couple of seconds per Kilometer. We had a lot of Scout troops (both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts) out there. All you Scouts need to bring your parents with you next time to an event and show them how to Orienteer.

I would like to thank my event crew, who, without their help, the meet would not have run so smoothly. Barbara Scruggs for taking care of registration, time keeping and everything else that I couldn’t get to. David Alexander for instruction and control pick-up. Arnold Willen and John Fairley for their help with control pick-up. And the Boy Scout Troop who hiked out to the old cabin to clean up the water and cups.
