  Great Fall Weather

DuPont State Forest | OCT. 9 & 10, 2004 | Jim Hall, meet director.

Great fall weather greeted 88 orienteers on Saturday at the DuPont Forest meet site. The majority of the participants were members of high school ROTC, but they were joined by several other “varieties” such as Girl Scouts, adventure racers, first-time orienteers, and veteran bushwhackers. It was a fun weekend to host a meet since the participants, particularly the youth participants, were so friendly and well-behaved. They seemed to have a lot of fun, and they took the time to get to know each other – and even to get to know us old people signing them up!

We offered four courses on Saturday – White, Yellow, Orange and Green, with the emphasis being on GREEN here. Jim and Walter offered mini instruction clinics to anyone who asked. Some good times were turned in, and in general, Saturday was a success and a lot of fun.

Sunday’s Bike O turnout was much smaller with only 7 participants, but they all had good rides…with the possible exception of Joseph who left considerable epithelium on the trail after a short flight and an abrupt landing. To add insult to injury, Walter beat him by about one minute…just like he did on Saturday!
