  Running on the Greenway Jun 14, 2008

Here are our final results for the 2007-2008 season, for the June 7th meet at Ann Springs Close Greenway. COK Prez David Alexander notes that next season’s schedule will be posted here in July.

No news yet of any results from the Camp Grimes meet. Remember that? It was way back in May 3. If anyone knows the whereabouts of meet director John Fairley, please taunt him severely.  

  Beautiful Day for Fishing May 23, 2008

Results are in for the Fisher Farm Park meet, ably helmed by Mark Chambley on May 17th. There's only one more meet left in the season.

Webmaster's Note:  No sign of John Fairley's results from the May 3rd meet at Camp Grimes. Naturally, we suspect foul play and have alerted the Authorities.

Or hailed on the Chief, in this case. That would be Sandy Kohn's meet last Saturday at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve. But neither hail nor woods nor dark of misplaced controls shall stay the orienteer from the swift completion of his appointed rounds. (Hmm... then why all the DNFs?) A couple of the meets have changed dates to accommodate the schedules of some groups outside of the COK. Please check the updated Schedule for the new dates and locations.

Our hosting company has had some growing pains over the years, been bought out, changed names, etc. Each time they do something, we end up with website problems. Lately it has gotten to be too much of a hassle, and our intrepid Webmaster...

...and switched to GoDaddy as our new hosting company. What you are looking at now is hosted on GoDaddy’s servers, and I expect much more consistent service from them.

Pardon us if there are any glitches in the initial period as we test everything at our new home. Please report any problems to the Webmaster, or any officer of the club.

  COK Needs Your Help Oct 27, 2006

Your local orienteering club is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that relies solely on the participation and enthusiasm of its members. It takes a considerable amount of effort to organize meets and operate courses given the tremendous increase in participants.  Although it may look like things run pretty smoothly, the truth is that having one person manage a meet by themselves is getting too daunting. WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE.

What can you do?
First, you don’t have to commit a lot of time and effort by yourself. For instance, you could set up a course and not manage a meet or someone else could set up courses for you and you could administer the meet. Responsibilities and load can be shared.  Any amount of assistance at meets is welcome and we can arrange meet management tasks to fit your schedule and abilities.

Second, to keep electronic punch capabilities we need more people to manage the computer at meets. It’s not a difficult task to learn and as mentioned, we can accommodate your needs with the club’s.

Please consider volunteering!  Your contributions will make a tremendous impact and will ensure the fun of orienteering remains a viable part of the greater Charlotte region’s outdoor activities.  Volunteering is also a great scout community service project.

  Fill Out Meet Forms in Advance

There’s always a minor hassle getting registered at the start of a meet. Everyone is crowding around the little table filling out forms at once, and there’s a fair amount of delay before the you get to hit the woods and the fun begins. Well, let’s see if we can help.

Here’s our Meet Registration form you can click on and print right off the website*. Print as many copies as you need! It has the waiver for you or an adult guardian to sign, and all the information on pricing so you can have your money worked out. Bring the completed registration form (and the cash-ola, of course) to the meet with you.

Application for Membership

Paying your club dues and registering for a meet are really unrelated, so we’ve made two forms instead of the older combined form. To join the COK (or simply to renew), you may either mail in your check plus form or bring them to a meet.

  Meet Director's Reporting Document

There is a standard form for Meet Directors’ use when emailing results to the COK website. Using it will speed up the process, i.e., less translation and retyping will be involved. Take a look at this page which outlines the simple process. It’s easy. Meet Directors, vow to be fast this season! I’ll do the same.
